Body Armor – Its Types and Uses
Body armor is any type of protective clothing made from armored plates or other forms of hardened fabric that can withstand impacts. This type of protection is necessary when one is involved in combat. It may be worn by law enforcement personnel as a part of their duty belt. Body armor is used in the same way a plate is. They have been around for a long time and they just keep getting better.
Body armor was originally designed and used by the military
to protect soldiers in combat. This protective clothing helped to keep the soldiers safe from injury when they were hit with bullets or other objects that were fired at them. In addition, body armor helped to protect them from burns during battle. In fact, in some areas of the military, all military personnel must wear some form of body armor.
Some people think that just because they are not in the military
that they do not need to wear body armor. This could not be further from the truth. Anyone who is in the line of fire should wear it. As mentioned above, law enforcement officers are required to wear this type of protective clothing while they are working. Even though it is not a legal requirement, many police officers are known to still wear it because they are more concerned about being saved than being arrested. Likewise, those in the medical profession such as doctors and nurses also need to wear this type of protective clothing.
Body armor is available in a variety of different styles.
There is the basic full body armor which is the heaviest and strongest type of body armor available. It is also very thick and sturdy. Some types of plate armor are designed specifically to protect against shrapnel, high-impact trauma, and even projectiles like hand grenades and other weapons.
A common type of protective body armor
is the bulletproof vest. This vest protects the wearer by providing a bullet-proof shield. It does not offer any form of protection from the penetration of the shrapnel and high-force trauma that can occur during an active shooter incident. Another common type of bulletproof vest is the full cover vest which basically serves the same purpose as the bulletproof vest but also covers the wearer’s torso. These vests are made with a thick material that can repel any penetrative shot or bullet.
The final form of protective body armor
that we will discuss is the ballistic vests. Ballistic vests were inspired by the German combat armor which was used by German soldiers in the First World War. Today, the US army still uses these combat armor items in large numbers. Ballistic vests protect by providing a hard point shot barrier that is bulletproof. Some of the ballistic vests available today feature Kevlar linings which are similar to the material that is used in bulletproof vests.
